Employers plan to up temp staff levels says JobsOutlook

Almost all employers surveyed in the Recruitment & Employment Confederation’s (REC’s) JobsOutlook survey for February 2015 plan to hold or increase levels of temporary staff in the next quarter.

This month’s findings, published today (25 March), reveal 98% of employers say they will maintain or grow levels of temp workers over the next three months, up 2% on January.

Meanwhile, almost eight in 10 employers (79%) plan to hire more permanent staff in the next quarter. A further 13% expect to maintain current staffing numbers, with 8% saying they will cut headcount.

Employers were also asked which criteria they use when choosing a recruitment agency.

Price/cost of workers as well as quality of service continue to be the most important criteria in the past two years, but the size of an agency – agency scale – has almost doubled in importance in the last year. Three-quarters (74%) cite this as an important factor in selecting an agency, up from 40% last year.

However, the number of employers that consider trade association membership as an important factor in choosing an agency to work with has halved, down from 51% last year to just 26% in February
